THE PROTAGONISTS

QUINCY

Likes: being alone, mountains, Colorado, camping, men, thinking out loud, reading

Dislikes: cults, conspiracy theorists, people trying to kill him, people trying to make him have sex with women in order to populate a cult, most people, homophobes

Hobbies: hiking, journaling, climbing, drinking with close friends, running away from cultists and conspiracy theorists who want to kill him, being a smart ass, creating fake identities to avoid capture and certain death, chilling

About me: “I like to get away to the mountains as much as possible, and I like to go by myself. People feel too complicated most of the time, and if there are two things I hate above all others it’s complicated people and those complicated people complicating my life. I don’t completely dislike people. The ones I’ve met in the mountains are pretty down to earth, in their own way. Sometimes it’s hard for me to commit to things…and people. I like to be able to pack up and leave when I want without feeling bad about doing it. Two things I hate: feeling bad about living my life and letting people down. I like funny things, too. And Russian literature.”

MAYA

Likes: nice people, men, ice cream, whiskey, Colorado, kids, non-profit organizations

Dislikes: racists, being mistaken for random Black women, police brutality, cults, being persuaded by a cult that her hips are perfect for baby making and that she should be a “breeder,” cigarettes, rich white people who wear blackface

Hobbies: jogging, reading, volunteering, having drinks with friends, writing, wearing BDSM paraphernalia in an attempt to blend in to a costume party full of rich people who think she is Rosario Dawson, punching cult leaders in the face, watching Netflix

About me: “I grew up in Colorado, and my family never had much money and didn’t have access to a lot of the same things people in other neighborhoods did. My dad sent me to a predominantly white school that was better funded. That experience led me to my work with a non-profit organization that helps underserved communities. I’ve grown up seeing cousins get pulled over for being Black, friends get stopped on the street for having their hoods up, men telling me they bet I taste just like chocolate. You name it, because I have too many of those memories to name anymore. I like getting away from the city sometimes, but I don’t do it often. I hear sometimes there is weirder stuff outside the city than in it. But I like to try new things.”
